Redemptoristines Monastery
An inner-city renovation project in the center of Bruges involving the repurposing of the Redemptorist Monastery into student rooms and the Redemptorist Church into workshops for the city art academy.
Several important requirements were imposed for this work. For example, the cloister on the ground floor had to be restored to its original condition, and the doors of the old rooms on the upper floors had to be preserved.
The building was completely stripped, leaving only the load-bearing walls. All intermediate floors were replaced with a steel framework, and the roofs were renewed. The layout of the student rooms was achieved using lightweight partition walls with a dry floor underneath to improve acoustic properties.
The fungus-damaged Redemptorist Church was fully restored and equipped to serve as workshops for the city art academy.
