Maypole placed on iconic Hanekop
On Monday afternoon, the maypole was placed on the Hanekop, one of the tallest buildings in the city. Animal feed companies Maselis, Versele-Laga and Debaillie are working together to give the iconic building its former function. After Verstraete.team has completely renovated the Hanekop, the building will be used again to stack and process grains.
With a height of about sixty meters, Granero Industrio, the former Rooster's head, is one of the tallest and most famous buildings in the city. De Hanekop has been empty for ten years now.
In 2017, the livestock feed companies Maselis, Versele-Laga and Debaillie decided to jointly purchase the buildings of livestock feed mills Dossche from Deinze. The building has been dismantled for the past two years. Our team has been working here since June. Initially we helped with the most difficult demolition works, then we built a stairwell and a lift shaft, among other things.
Bridge over the canal
The first phase of the works will be completed in June. The renovated buildings will then contain 150 silos with a storage capacity of 20,000 cubic meters. Additional silos will be built in a second phase. The maypole was placed on the roof on Monday.
It has not yet been decided when the former Hanekop can be used.
The intention is that in a later phase a bridge will also be built over the canal that will connect Granero Industrio with the buildings of Maselis.
