Unveiling 'first brike' Jan Yperman Hospital
Verstraete.team is building a new wing on the site in Ypres on behalf of the Jan Yperman Hospital in which child psychiatry, rehabilitation and dialysis are accommodated. Flemish minister Wouter Beke (CD&V) came to take a look at the construction works on Thursday and saw that the works are progressing well.
A new building is currently being built next to the staff car park of the Jan Yperman Hospital in Ypres. It concerns a hospital wing in which there will be room for 3 departments: child psychiatry, rehabilitation department and dialysis. Last week the ground floor was poured and now that part is being built up. By the summer of 2022, the entire shell with windows and doors will be there and the finishing should be largely finished the following year.
Historical legacy
The current Sp rehabilitation department (the Sp is the hospital abbreviation for Specialized Service, edit) in Wervik is a historical legacy of the Jan Yperman Hospital. Centralizing all rehabilitation in one place saves a lot on transport. Today, patients often have to be transported back and forth for procedures, examinations or treatments.
In Ypres, the Jan Yperman will offer all rehabilitation patients better care in a comfortable and economical new building. Finally, the dialysis department will have a place in the building. The client has the ambition to make dialysis the spearhead of our hospital and that deserves a brand new department.
Closer to the people
Flemish Minister of Health Wouter Beke (CD&V) and Ypres mayor Emmily Talpe (Open Ypres) unveiled a column on Thursday, a symbolic first 'brieke'. The 'brieke' refers both to the word stone and to the location of the hospital, namely the Briekestraat in Sint-Jan. “With this new wing, the hospital continues to build quality care closer to the people,” said the minister.
