Verstraete.team breathes new life into Hanekop
The empty buildings of cattle feed company Hanekop are given a second life. At the end of 2017, the neighboring companies Debaillie, Maselis and Versele-Laga, united in Granero Industrio, bought the site along Trakelweg. By the end of 2022, Hanekop's silos and flour mill will be restored to their former glory.
Hanekop is a well-known concept in Roeselare because the silos of the company have towered above the Kop van de Vaart for decades. But there is no activity for some time. In recent years, the site has been empty, although the buildings have occasionally been used as a location for jazz festival RSL Jazz and pop-up Club Kop. At the end of 2017 it became known that Maselis, supplier of grain products for the food industry, and animal feed companies Versele-Laga and Debaillie had united as Granero Industrio (which stands for Granen Roeselare Industrieel Trio nvdr.) and together site Hanekop, at that time owned by Dossche Mills in Deinze, had purchased.
The striking building height of the silos, 52m in total, strongly determines the architectural presence at the Kop van de Vaart. The flour mill between both silo volumes is raised to the same line through a golden volume. This not only enhances the landmark aspect, but also the uniform appearance of the whole.
