Oudenaarde
Kloosterhof Pamele
Kloosterhof Pamele is a Residential and Care Center located on the site of a former neo-Gothic monastery in Oudenaarde, in the medieval artisan district of Pamele. The site is situated on a corner plot, adjacent to the Scheldt River.
The positioning of the building is remarkable: it is not aligned perpendicular to the Scheldt, but rather rotated at a 45-degree angle. This allows for a wide perspective of the entire structure. Along Kasteelstraat, the building is set back from the row houses. The lowered monastery wall has been preserved along the side facing the Scheldt. The building integrates seamlessly into the surroundings like a fitting puzzle piece. It is not imposing, but exudes a peaceful self-assurance, as if it has always been there, reviving the memory of the former monastery. The organization of the building follows the typology of a monastery, with its orthogonal layout creating a rustic and rhythmic atmosphere.
