Woumen
The Rhille
In the village of Woumen on the East Coast, the architects drew inspiration from simple barns and stables constructed with concrete and corrugated sheets when creating a meeting center for horse enthusiasts commissioned by Sport Vlaanderen. Nestled in a tranquil location in rural Woumen is one of the most beautiful BLOSO domains in Flanders.
The new restaurant and kitchen building not only establishes a fresh identity on the site but also aims to seamlessly integrate into the immediate surroundings.
The distinctive architectural style is faithfully adopted and evolves into a new, contemporary architectural ensemble, resulting in a domain with its own character.
A strong interaction between the outdoors and indoors has been achieved by creating a "forecourt" where visitors can gather. The restaurant maximizes its connection to this forecourt, while the interior provides carefully framed views of the surroundings.
The exterior of the new restaurant and kitchen building features a neutral gray concrete facade, accentuated by large square wooden windows that frame the environment. A serene design language adds rhythm to the overall composition.
